Clovis Unified Parent Academy Information

CUSD will host four different Parent Academy Workshops throughout the 2018-2019 school year at no cost to our families.  The CUSD Parent Academy for Literacy provides strategies to support, advocate and empower parents to engage fully in the educational lives of their children. The CUSD Parent Academy covers several themes, including: the importance for parents to become involved in their child’s education; effective strategies for parent involvement; social emotional well-being, the role of the parent and of the teacher in influencing student performance; parent-teacher interaction and conferences; college readiness, social media, technology and expectations and the design of a parent involvement action plan by teachers and administrators.  The academies are all held at the CUSD Professional Learning Center @ 362 N Clovis Ave, Clovis, (Herndon & Clovis Ave. —In-N-Out Burger Shopping Center) from 6:00—8:00

Do you feel like your child doesn’t listen to you?                                                             Tuesday, January 15, 2019

Talking with your child is a daily event. But, let’s face it, as parents; we are busy, and it is easier to keep the conversation with our children light, so we can move on to the next thing on our “to-do” list. Do you ever feel like; they just don’t listen? Do they just go their room? There’s a place for light conversation in daily life but there are also those times when your child needs for you to tune in and listen more deeply. This module will share ways to keep communication within your family. You will leave with “Tune In” strategies to help with communicating with your children.

Technology is everywhere--intertwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With mobile and other wireless devices becoming an increasing requirement across every industry today, it only makes sense that our schools are also effectively deploying mobile technology in the classroom. However, for many schools, implementing the latest technology is a difficult strategy to navigate. This module will explore how technology is integrated into our classrooms and well as what parents can do to assist at home. 

Social Media:  Do You Know What Your Child Is On?                                                             Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Did You Know? Nearly all youth and a majority of adults use social media. In 2012, 90% of 13- to 17-year-olds reported using some form of social media. 80% of teens sleep with their phone and get less than 8 hours of sleep per night. This academy will present the impact social media plays in your student’s life. We’ll explore the various websites that students’ access each and every day as well as some of the pitfalls that may occur when our children are not aware of how to navigate these sites.
