    2. To develop physical and social skills that allow personal fulfillment in leisure time.
    3. To establish a foundation and develop an awareness of the importance of physical well-being.
    4. To be receptive to cultural differences.
    5. To provide participation in a wide variety of physical activities and sports in order to identify areas of enjoyment and benefit.
  • Grading Categories

    • 45% – Dress
    • 45% – Participation
    • 10% – Mile Run and PFA Testing

    Point System

    Students earn daily points by:

    • Arriving to class on time and dressed out
    • Actively participating and demonstrating effort during class activities
    • Completing PFA, skills, and written assessments

Each regular class period is worth 4 points, and each block period is worth 8 points. A full week of PE is worth 20 points.

    Loss of Points

Students may lose points for the following:

    • Absence (-2 single period or -4 block period)
    • Unexcused tardy (-2)
    • Non-dress (-2 single period or -4 block period)
    • Non-participation (-2 single period or -4 block period)
    • Misconduct (point deduction determined by the teacher based on severity)

  • Alta Sierra PE uniform requirements include the following approved colors and attire:

    • Gray shirt
    • Red shorts
    • Athletic shoes (Crocs, sandals, and open-toed shoes are not permitted)
    • Sweats or leggings may also be worn
    • All clothing must follow the school dress code
    • Clothing worn during PE class must be different from clothing worn throughout the school day.

Optional ASI PE clothing will be available for purchase.

Students must meet PE uniform requirements to receive credit for dressing out. Failure to follow these requirements will result in a non-dress and loss of points for the day. Non-dresses are one of the leading causes of failing grades in PE.

  • Parent Excuses

    • Parents/guardians may excuse a student from one day of PE participation per semester.
    • A written note from the parent/guardian is required.
    • Students are still expected to dress out for PE.
    • Any additional excusals will require a doctor’s note.

    Doctor’s Excuses

    • Doctor’s notes must include the length of the excusal and/or any specific activity limitations (for example: “no PE participation” or “self-paced activity only”).
    • Students who are medically excused from PE will report to the library during their PE period, where attendance will be taken.
  • Absences — including excused absences — will affect a student’s PE grade. To recover points lost due to absences or other reasons, students may attend Make-Up PE sessions. Each Make-Up PE session is worth 4 points (2 dress points + 2 participation points).  Students do not have to schedule make-up PE sessions or receive prior approval from their teacher. They may attend any session. They simply need to dress out, show up on time, and participate.
