CORE SUBJECTS

Academic Block

7th and 8th-grade Academic Block (AB) classes are designed to transition students from the self-contained classrooms of elementary schools to the departmentalized classes of secondary education.  Classes include one period of English Language Arts (Reading, Writing, and Language) and one period of History (7th: Medieval and Early Modern Times; 8th: U.S. History).

Math

In middle school math, students will build a strong foundation in proportional relationships, rational numbers, linear equations, and functions while applying these skills to real-world problems and data. They will also explore geometry through scale drawings, area, surface area, and volume, and deepen their understanding of similarity, congruence, and the Pythagorean Theorem. By the end, students will be prepared to reason mathematically, analyze data, and solve multi-step problems with confidence.

Science

Students in seventh and eighth grade receive foundational science instruction in Chemistry, Ecology and Earth science (7th grade) and Physics, Astronomy and Biology (8th grade). Based on math placement, ELA scores and other recommendations some students may be enrolled in Honors or Advanced Science. All students will receive the study habits, critical analysis skills, and lab techniques necessary to prepare them for high school science.

Physical Education

Physical Education is a comprehensive program designed to allow students to discover and appreciate the skills and strategies necessary to achieve and maintain total personal fitness and wellness and to continue to exercise throughout their lifetime.
